Inspiration notes for Henrietta: Henrietta is a tribute to the Immortal Henrietta Lacks. Unknowingly, Henrietta donated her cells to John Hopkins in 1951. The donation began the first human cell line able to reproduce indefinitely. Henrietta’s cells known as HeLa for Henrietta Lacks, remain a remarkably durable and prolific line of cells used in medical research around the world. Henrietta “gives us life.” Inspiration notes for Sefina: Sefina features Part 1 of the Black Cornucopia: coconut, avocado, papaya, plantain and serves as part a reminder of the fruits of our labor and pleasure.
